The following statement was posted by Meghann Foster on Facebook on August 25, 2025:
As local election season heats up, I want to share an update with all of you. After a great deal of thought and consideration, I have decided to run for the Iowa Senate (District 43). Because of this, I will not be seeking re-election for Mayor of Coralville in order to focus on the primary next year. A formal campaign launch and announcement will come later, but for now I want to be clear and up front about my plans.
This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Serving as an elected leader of this community has been deeply meaningful, and I’ve learned so much over the last eight years. There have been ups and downs, but my love for our community has always kept me going.
Serving in local office is never easy, even in the best of times. Frankly, I think it’s the most difficult type of office to hold. And it has become increasingly hard given the cruel and relentless attacks we are seeing from Republican leadership in our state. I’ve seen the devastating impact of these policies firsthand as I’ve engaged with the community. I’m heartbroken and angry about what is happening and I’m ready to bring my voice to the fight in Des Moines.
Until my term as mayor ends, I will continue to serve Coralville with the same energy and commitment I have always brought to the job. There’s still a lot of work to do as we navigate challenging issues locally and beyond. No matter what my role is, I will always be here to serve this community.
Love you all. 🩵
